Exterior House Colors

It is now time to paint the exterior of your house. Choosing a color should not be scary. If you pick a color that is boring, your house will look boring nothing notable about it. Some people want the outside of their homes to look nice and for people to say how lovely it is. Then again, if the exterior house colors are too bright, say neon orange, the neighbors will have fits.

To pick out exterior house colors will sometimes depend on style of the home, the neighborhood and the age of the home. Skillfully placed, paint can cover up some flaws with the architectural design. It will certainly add that curb appeal and might raise the market value of the home.

If you have a home that has a lot of history behind it such as a Victorian home or a Craftsman built home, try and find the colors it was originally. That will certainly up the value and some say will restore the old home like it should be restored. Not being sure on the original color or colors, try and find pictures of the home. Older the better, it will show the colors. Sometimes though the pictures are black and white, then that might be a problem. Maybe there is a way to get some paint chips from the exterior of the home, scraping down to the bare wood. Exterior house colors can be found in many places.

Hiring a professional to analyze old paint chips might be another answer. Or try going to the local library or historical society, they might have some ideas for you. People sometimes want to accentuate with exterior house colors. Wanting to just paint the window frames, the outside door and or the pillars will add a lot to exterior. Just be sure if your going to paint with vibrant, loud colors, they fit in with the neighboring homes. Hot pink does well in San Francisco but not well in Cleveland.

Another way for exterior house colors can be chosen is to look at the roof of the house. Depending of the color of the roof, choose the color that will draw attention to the outside of the home. Try looking for items on the outside of the home that does not need to be painted. If it has brick walls, do not paint that. Vinyl window frames usually do not need painting or a wooden door, that door might be made of some rich wood and it should not be painted either.

Some will take a color from inside the home for exterior house colors. A pale blue taken from a flowered pillow could look lovely outside. Try to harmonize with the colors inside and you can not go wrong. The size of the home will determine if more than one color should be used. Selecting different colors for the shutters, brackets, columns and porch decks as accent colors will make the home look alive.
What ever the exterior house colors you chose to use, make sure they are pleasing to you and the neighborhood.
